divine follies

Writers all devise ways to approach that place where they expect to make the contact, where they become the conduit, or where they engage in this mysterious process. For me, light is the signal in the transition. It’s not being in the light, it’s being there before it arrives. It enables me, in some sense.

I tell my students one of the most important things they need to know is when they are their best, creatively. They need to ask themselves, What does the ideal room look like? Is there music? Is there silence? Is there chaos outside or is there serenity outside? What do I need in order to release my imagination?”—Toni Morrison

Being in a space before it arrives in an enabling and powerful experience. Whether it is the advent of light, an approach to time, or setting up for a desired outcome. Showing up in the best version of ourselves at the moment is a truly transformative process.

At peace in the present moment - the sunlight streaming through a window, the sound of rain, the rise and fall of our breath. We don't have to chase anything - enjoy every moment as it unfolds. We need to be present here and now to be transformed.

Instead of filling free time with countless diversions - in fear of even a few minutes of unoccupied time. The constant need for something to look at, listen to, talk about keeps the emptiness inside from rearing its terrifying head.

We do not lack anything - we are what we want to become. We are whole and complete - no need to strive to thrive. Self contained. Self realized.

Empty out - let it all seep away.
